…As for the sound, there is a real, audible difference. I was expecting a shift in the treble-bass-midrange balance—like when changing interconnect cables—but what I hear is a distinct clearing up of the spectrum. Mains conditioner with dynamic throughput

While most commercial mains filters and surge-protected power strips do suppress high-frequency noise, they completely kill an amplifier’s dynamics. Designed to meet industrial standards, they employ cascades of high-internal-resistance coils and oversized input capacitance. For an amplifier’s linear power supply—which needs to instantly draw current spikes from the mains—this acts as an impassable barrier.
The result is a sluggish sound and soft bass lacking drive.

I developed this mains conditioner with the opposite goal in mind: to eliminate mains noise where necessary, yet allow audio components absolute freedom of current flow.

Construction and power distribution:

  • Section 1: 3x DIRECT (No filters or snubbers) – The first three outlets are wired directly to the main input, free from any circuit-based restrictions or added capacitance. They are designed for power amplifiers and output stages that require uncompromising transient response and maximum peak current delivery without the risk of dynamic compression.
  • Section 2: 3x FILTERED (Filtered Zone) – The next three outlets are powered via an uncompromising low-impedance filter featuring massive chokes with minimal DC resistance (DCR). This section is designed for source components (DACs, streamers, preamplifiers), effectively eliminating high-frequency noise without introducing unwanted phase shifts.
  • Dual Surge Protection: The entire unit is protected against mains voltage spikes by a sophisticated two-stage system. At its core is an ultra-fast transient voltage suppressor (TVS) which, unlike standard varistors, does not age or degrade and has no impact on input impedance.
  • Tuning Switch: The high-frequency output filter in the filtered section features switchable attenuation characteristics. The “SMOOTH” position provides sharper filtering and more rigorous suppression of asymmetrical noise, while the “DYNAMIC” position acts to dampen parasitic resonances and is maximally gentle on the dynamics of connected equipment.
    Integrated Shielded Power Cord: The conditioner includes a permanently attached, shielded power cord with a conductor cross-section of 2.5 mm². The chassis-grounded cable shielding acts as a passive Faraday cage—handling external electromagnetic interference (RFI/EMI) without electrically interfering with the signal path.

Result
No hi-fi voodoo here. The device cleans up the mains background, refines textures, and clarifies the soundstage, yet mechanical impact, drive, and bass tightness remain fully preserved.
